New Delhi witnessed a significant convergence of global health leaders as Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a compelling address at the closing ceremony of the Second World Health Organization Global Summit on Traditional Medicine. The event, hosted at Bharat Mandapam, underscored the growing importance of traditional medicine systems and holistic wellness practices in global healthcare discussions.

In his address, Modi placed special emphasis on yoga, describing it as an integral part of traditional medicine that has guided people around the world toward improved health, balance, and harmony. He highlighted yoga’s universal appeal and its recognition by more than 175 countries, noting that this widespread support led to the United Nations declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day.

The summit also served as a platform for launching several pivotal Ayush initiatives. Among them was the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal, designed to streamline access to traditional medicine resources, and the Ayush Mark, envisioned as a global benchmark for the quality of Ayush products and services. Modi noted that these steps aim to elevate standards, increase research and standardisation, and foster international collaboration.

In addition to digital and regulatory advancements, Modi unveiled important knowledge resources, including a technical WHO report on yoga training and a commemorative postal stamp on Ashwagandha, reflecting the global resonance of India’s traditional medicinal heritage. He also felicitated recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga, recognising individuals whose lifelong dedication has helped take yoga to new global heights.

The summit’s overarching theme, Restoring balance: The science and practice of health and well-being, highlighted the growing consensus that traditional and modern health systems can work together to address today’s health challenges. Leaders and experts from around the world took part in intensive discussions around regulatory frameworks, scientific validation, and digital integration to strengthen traditional medicine practices globally.

Modi’s participation and the initiatives unveiled at the summit reinforce India’s role as a key advocate for traditional medicine on the global health stage. The event concluded with a strong message that ancient knowledge, backed by science and innovation, can play a crucial role in shaping the future of world health.
