Today, April 8, marks a significant step for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Prime Minister Narendra Modi commences the party’s campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with rallies in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. These events are aimed at garnering support for BJP candidates in the upcoming elections, which are set to begin with their first phase shortly.
Campaign Kickoff in Chhattisgarh
Prime Minister Modi’s first rally of the day will take place in Aamabal village, Bhanpuri, within the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency of Chhattisgarh. Scheduled for 1:30 p.m., this event supports BJP candidate Mahesh Kashyap. Bastar is one of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in Chhattisgarh, with polling across the state divided into three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7. The results will be announced on June 4.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured a dominant victory in Chhattisgarh, capturing 9 out of 11 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) won just 2. This was a slight drop from the 2014 elections, where BJP won 10 seats.
Evening Rally in Maharashtra
Later in the day, at 5:00 p.m., Prime Minister Modi will head to Maharashtra to hold a rally in Chandrapur district. Here, he will campaign for Sudhir Mungantiwar, the state’s Minister for Forest, Cultural Affairs, and Fisheries, and the BJP candidate from the Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency. This constituency, located in the Vidarbha region, will also participate in the first phase of polling on April 19.
The Chandrapur seat was previously held by Congress candidate Balu Dhanorkar, who won in the 2019 elections but passed away in May 2023. Maharashtra, a crucial state in the elections, sends 48 MPs to the Lok Sabha, making it second only to Uttar Pradesh in terms of representation.

These rallies signify the BJP’s intense preparation for a third term at the Centre, reflecting the party’s strategy to strengthen its foothold in key states by rallying support well ahead of the election dates. With Prime Minister Modi at the helm of these campaigns, the BJP aims to replicate its past successes and overcome any regional challenges posed by rival parties.
