- Toyota has slashed prices for the Fortuner, Hilux, and Innova Crysta, with the Fortuner now up to ₹3.49 lakh cheaper.
- The price reduction is a direct pass-through of benefits from a recently revised GST compensation cess on vehicles.
- The move is expected to boost demand and make these premium models more accessible to a wider audience in India.
AlwaysFirst News Desk – In a move that is set to energize the Indian automotive market, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has officially implemented a substantial price reduction across several of its flagship models. The decision comes on the heels of the Indian government’s recent revision of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation cess levied on certain vehicles.
The most notable beneficiary of this revision is Toyota’s iconic SUV, the Fortuner. The starting price of the Fortuner has been reduced by a significant margin, making the powerful SUV more accessible than it has been in recent years. Potential buyers can now drive home the base variant of the Fortuner for a notably lower ex-showroom price.
“This is a very customer-centric move by Toyota,” said an industry analyst familiar with the development. “Instead of absorbing the benefit, they are promptly passing the entire advantage from the reduced cess to the consumer. This will undoubtedly make their products more competitive and could sway buyers sitting on the fence.”
The price correction isn’t limited to the Fortuner. Toyota’s robust pickup truck, the Hilux, has also seen its price tag reduced by up to ₹ 2.22 lakh. Furthermore, the ever-popular people-mover, the Innova Crysta, has become more affordable with a price cut of up to ₹ 1.87 lakh, depending on the specific variant and fuel type.
The trigger for this widespread price reduction is a government notification that reduced the GST compensation cess on vehicles that previously attracted a 22% cess. This category included several popular SUVs and luxury cars. With the cess now lowered, automakers are swiftly moving to adjust their ex-showroom prices to reflect the new tax structure.
This strategic price repositioning by Toyota is expected to provide a fresh boost to sales and intensify competition in the premium SUV and MPV segments. For Indian consumers, it presents a sudden and welcome opportunity to own a premium Toyota vehicle at a much more attractive investment.
