  • The Jammu & Kashmir administration will provide ₹10 Lakh to the next of kin of those killed in accidental blasts from unexploded shells or grenades.
  • This welfare measure is part of a broader effort to support families affected by tragedy, irrespective of the cause.
  • The government reinforced its commitment to a “zero tolerance” policy against terrorism while highlighting this civilian-focused initiative.

SRINAGAR – In a decisive step aimed at providing a crucial financial safety net, the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory administration, under Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has approved a major compensation package for families struck by tragedy. The government will now provide ₹10 Lakh to the next of kin of individuals who die in accidental explosions caused by unexploded ordnance such as shells and grenades.

The announcement was made public during a high-level security review meeting chaired by the Lieutenant Governor. The move is seen as a direct response to civilian casualties that have occurred over time from accidental encounters with leftover explosive materials in the region.

“This is a humane and compassionate policy,” a government spokesperson stated. “The financial assistance is designed to offer some semblance of stability and support to families who have endured an unimaginable loss, ensuring they are not left to face financial hardships alone.”

While the meeting extensively reviewed the security landscape and reaffirmed the administration’s “zero tolerance” stance towards terrorism, this particular welfare scheme underscores a parallel focus on civilian aid. The compensation policy specifically addresses deaths resulting from accidental blasts, distinguishing them from direct conflict scenarios.

The administration has directed officials to ensure the compensation process is streamlined and compassionate, allowing grieving families to access the funds without bureaucratic delays. This initiative is part of a larger framework of people-centric policies being implemented by the J&K government to safeguard its citizens and assist them in times of unforeseen distress. The announcement has been widely interpreted as a significant effort to bolster public welfare and solidify a sense of security among the local population.
