- Opinion poll predicts NDA could win around 96 to 98 seats in Assam
- Congress-led alliance likely to trail significantly in seat count
- Vote share gap remains narrow, hinting at close fights in some constituencies
As political activity intensifies ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, a new opinion poll has indicated a strong advantage for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the state. The survey suggests that the ruling alliance is on track to secure a decisive mandate, reinforcing its dominance in the northeastern state.
According to the findings, the NDA is projected to win between 96 and 98 seats in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly. This comfortably crosses the majority mark and signals a potential return to power for the alliance. In contrast, the Congress-led opposition alliance is expected to secure only around 26 to 28 seats, with other parties likely to win a limited number of constituencies.
The vote share estimates further highlight the NDA’s edge. The ruling alliance is expected to receive around 43 to 44 percent of the total votes, while the Congress bloc may secure approximately 39 to 40 percent. Despite the noticeable gap in seats, the relatively close vote share indicates that several constituencies could witness tight contests.
The Assam Assembly elections, which cover all 126 seats, are scheduled to take place in a single phase. The results will determine whether the BJP-led alliance can retain its hold on the state or if the opposition can stage a comeback.
Recent political developments suggest that the NDA has been actively strengthening its position. Seat-sharing arrangements among alliance partners have already been finalized, with the BJP contesting the majority of seats, while its allies are fielding candidates in select constituencies.
While opinion polls offer an early snapshot of voter sentiment, the final outcome will depend on multiple factors, including campaign strategies, voter turnout, and last-minute shifts in public opinion. As the election date approaches, the political battle in Assam is expected to intensify, keeping all eyes on the northeastern state.
