In an intensifying diplomatic initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate telephone conversations with key Gulf leaders on Tuesday as conflict in West Asia continues to deepen. The outreach reflects New Delhi’s heightened engagement with countries in the region where millions of Indian citizens reside.
Modi spoke to Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah of Kuwait to review the evolving security situation and express concern over recent attacks on their territories. He also discussed measures to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian nationals living and working in these Gulf states, officials said.
The Prime Minister separately connected with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, reaffirming India’s steadfast solidarity with Doha and strongly condemning any breaches of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Modi emphasized the urgent need for peaceful resolution and de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy.
These calls come amid a widening confrontation following a joint United States and Israeli offensive against Iran, which has sparked retaliatory missile and drone strikes that have impacted several countries across the Gulf region. The crisis has triggered concerns over civilian safety, disruptions to air travel and energy markets, and prompted global diplomatic responses.
New Delhi has stressed that the safety of nearly ten million Indians in West Asia is a top priority, and has been in continuous dialogue with Gulf leaders, including those of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan in recent days. The Indian government has urged all parties to exercise restraint and engage in constructive discussions to bring stability to the region.
With tensions showing no signs of quick abatement, Modi’s extensive outreach highlights India’s proactive diplomatic stance and its commitment to both safeguarding its diaspora and supporting peacebuilding efforts in a volatile geopolitical landscape.
