GURUGRAM – A routine late-night journey turned into a scene of utter devastation on National Highway 48, as a speeding Mahindra Thar met with a catastrophic accident in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, claiming the lives of five individuals. The sole survivor has been left critically injured, fighting for his life at a private hospital in the city.
The incident occurred around 4:30 AM near the Kherki Daula toll plaza, a known high-speed corridor. According to preliminary reports from the Gurugram Police, the Thar was travelling at an excessively high speed when the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle. The SUV subsequently skidded off the main carriageway, crashing violently on the service lane.
“The vehicle was severely overloaded, carrying six occupants against its designated capacity. This, combined with the high speed, likely contributed to the driver losing control,” stated a senior police official present at the crash site. The impact of the collision was so intense that it left the vehicle mangled beyond recognition, necessitating a prolonged operation by emergency services to extract the victims.
Tragically, five of the six young men inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased have been identified as residents of nearby areas. The injured passenger, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a nearby private medical facility where his condition remains unstable. Authorities have confirmed that all occupants were believed to be in their early twenties.
The Gurugram Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash. While speeding is considered the primary cause, officials are also examining all angles, including the possibility of mechanical failure. The wreckage of the Thar has been seized for a detailed technical inspection.
This tragic event has once again cast a harsh spotlight on the perils of speeding and reckless driving on Gurugram’s busy highways. It serves as a grim reminder of the fatal consequences that can arise from a single moment of negligence behind the wheel. As the community mourns the loss of five young lives, the focus now shifts to the ongoing investigation and the critical recovery of the sole survivor.
