Bihar ambulance crime: Arrested driver and technician accused of assaulting unconscious woman during medical transport.

Key Points:

  • A woman collapsed during a Home Guard recruitment drive in Bodh Gaya and was allegedly raped inside an ambulance by the driver and technician.
  • Police arrested both suspects within hours, relying on medical reports, victim testimony, and CCTV footage.
  • Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the Bihar government, calling it a “depraved state protected by criminals.”

Bodh Gaya, Bihar – A horrifying incident has sent shockwaves across Bihar after a woman, who lost consciousness during a Home Guard recruitment drive, was allegedly sexually assaulted inside an ambulance by the very staff entrusted with her care. The two accused—an ambulance driver and a technician—were arrested within hours of the complaint, but the case has sparked fierce political backlash.

How the Crime Unfolded

On July 24, the victim was participating in a physical run for a Home Guard recruitment drive in Bodh Gaya when she collapsed. An ambulance stationed at the site rushed her to the hospital. However, instead of receiving medical aid, the woman later alleged that she was assaulted inside the moving vehicle by the driver and an accompanying technician.

Police acted swiftly after the complaint was filed. Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police stated, “Based on her medical examination, statement, and CCTV footage, we identified and arrested both accused within two hours.” The suspects have been identified as Vinay Kumar, the driver from Utren village, and Ajit Kumar, the technician from Chandpur village.

Forensic Investigation & Legal Action

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the Bodh Gaya Sub-Divisional Police Officer, with forensic experts collecting crucial evidence from the ambulance. Authorities have assured a fast-tracked trial to ensure strict punishment.

Political Outrage: Tejashwi Yadav’s Fiery Response

The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from Bihar’s Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, who targeted both the state and central governments. In a scathing social media post, Yadav tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning:

“Is this the ‘demon’s rule’ in Bihar? A depraved state protected by criminals? Under Modi and Nitish Kumar’s misrule, crimes against women are rampant, yet the government stays silent.”

He further accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputies of “criminal silence” on rising atrocities, alleging that their inaction reflects deep-seated casteist biases.

What’s Next?

While the swift arrests have provided some measure of justice, the case has reignited debates over women’s safety and law enforcement accountability in Bihar. As investigations continue, pressure mounts on the administration to ensure such heinous crimes are met with zero tolerance.
