Security Forces Neutralize 2 Terrorists in Poonch Encounter
JAMMU: In a decisive operation near the Line of Control (LoC), Indian Army troops engaged and eliminated two terrorists in Poonch district early Wednesday, successfully preventing an infiltration attempt. The encounter, which unfolded in a dense forested area, was launched following precise intelligence shared by military and Jammu & Kashmir police sources.
According to defense spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, the troops detected suspicious movement close to the LoC, prompting an immediate response. “The operation was based on credible inputs regarding terrorist presence in the region,” he stated.
Arms & Explosives Seized
Following the exchange of fire, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons, including:
- Two assault rifles
- A pistol with ammunition
- Multiple hand grenades
- Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
- Medical supplies and communication equipment
The area remains under tight security as search operations continue to ensure no additional threats are present.
Recent Counter-Terror Successes
This operation comes just days after security forces eliminated three terrorists in Srinagar linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, under “Operation Mahadev” on July 28. The back-to-back successes highlight the intensified counter-insurgency efforts in the region.
Authorities remain on high alert as infiltration attempts from across the border continue to pose challenges. The latest encounter reinforces the Army’s vigilance in safeguarding the LoC against militant activities.
