Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reignited the competitive rivalry with tech giant Apple, taking aim at the newly unveiled Vision Pro with a bold declaration of the Meta Quest 3’s superiority. In a direct challenge posted on Threads, Zuckerberg disputed claims favoring the Vision Pro, positioning the Quest 3 as not only a more economical choice but also a technically superior virtual reality headset.
Zuckerberg’s assertive stance emerged amidst discussions comparing the two devices, where he emphasized, “We’re not suggesting equivalence; rather, we’re asserting Quest’s supremacy,” a statement reported by The Verge. His response to the supposed similarities drawn by some Meta VR engineers between the Quest 3 and the Vision Pro was clear and unwavering.
Highlighting key areas where the Quest 3 outperforms its Apple counterpart, Zuckerberg pointed to issues like the device’s weight, motion clarity, and input accuracy as distinguishing factors that elevate the Quest above its competition. He showcased the Quest 3’s advanced features, including its innovative video pass-through system and a significant 120-gram weight advantage over the Vision Pro, arguing these contribute to a more comfortable and extended user experience.
Further accentuating the Quest 3’s benefits, Zuckerberg praised its wireless capabilities and wider field of view, suggesting that Apple’s focus on display resolution with the Vision Pro sacrifices user comfort and device mobility. Despite the Vision Pro’s impressive specs, including dual OLED displays, the M2 chip, and multiple cameras and sensors, Zuckerberg highlighted the steep $3,500 price tag as a major barrier, compared to the more accessible $499.99 price point of the Quest 3, launched in October last year.
Zuckerberg’s spirited defense of the Meta Quest 3 against the Vision Pro underscores the ongoing battle for dominance in the virtual reality space, with each company striving to outdo the other through technological innovation and user experience enhancements.
