Key Highlights:

  • NTA announces revised rank list for NEET-UG 2024.
  • Retest conducted on June 23 for candidates previously awarded grace marks.
  • Official scorecards available on the NTA website.

Revised Rank List Released:

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has published the revised rank list for the NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam. This update follows a retest conducted for candidates who were initially awarded grace marks due to exam delays at six centers on May 5. Less than half of the affected candidates appeared for the re-exam, held on June 23.

Candidates can check their revised scorecards on the official NTA website: https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/. The NTA has confirmed in a press release that all candidates, including the 1,563 who appeared for the retest, can view, download, and print their revised scorecards.

NEET-UG Retest Attendance and Results:

Out of the 1,563 eligible candidates, only 813 chose to take the retest. The remaining candidates opted to retain their original scores without the grace marks. Notably, the Chandigarh center saw zero attendance from its two candidates, while the Jhajjar center registered a 58% attendance rate, with 287 of the 494 candidates retaking the exam. The revised rank list includes adjustments following these retest results.

Background of the Re-Exam:

The initial NEET-UG exam on May 5 encountered significant disruptions due to the distribution of incorrect question papers, affecting 1,563 candidates. The NTA initially awarded grace marks to these candidates, but following a Supreme Court mandate for fairness, a retest was conducted on June 23. Candidates had the option to retake the exam or accept their original scores minus the grace marks.

NEET UG 2024 Counselling Process:

Following the release of the re-exam results, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is set to begin the NEET 2024 counselling process on July 6. The MCC handles counselling for 15% of all India quota seats, as well as seats in central universities, the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), and the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. Detailed counselling schedules will be available on mcc.nic.in.

Investigations and Legal Actions:

The Central Government has announced a high-level committee, headed by former ISRO chairman Dr. K Radhakrishnan, to review the functioning and fair conduct of examinations by the NTA. This seven-member committee will submit its report in two months.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation of NEET-UG following the discovery of evidence of a paper leak. Special teams have been formed to probe the alleged irregularities. On June 27, the CBI arrested two accused in the paper leak case from Jharkhand, adding to previous arrests made in Patna, Bihar.

As NEET-UG 2024 continues to unfold, candidates are encouraged to stay updated with official announcements and maintain preparedness for the upcoming counselling sessions.
