Indian Railways has finalised a new fare structure that will take effect from December 26, 2025. Under the revised plan, passengers on long-distance routes will see modest increases, while short-distance travellers and daily commuters are shielded from price changes.

Rail travelers across India will now need to pay additional charges if their luggage exceeds the free allowance specified for each class, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Parliament. The move aims to streamline baggage norms and reduce overcrowding in compartments.
