- Four people injured and fire brought under control by authorities
Dubai witnessed tense moments on Saturday after a powerful explosion was reported from the iconic Palm Jumeirah area, one of the most recognisable man made island developments in the United Arab Emirates.
Eyewitnesses in the area reported hearing a loud blast followed by thick plumes of smoke rising from a hotel building located on the island. Several videos shared on social media showed flames and smoke emerging from the structure as emergency sirens were heard in the background.
Officials later confirmed that at least four people were injured in the incident and were immediately taken for medical treatment. Authorities stated that the fire triggered by the explosion has since been brought under control, preventing further damage to nearby infrastructure and tourist facilities.
According to initial reports, the explosion occurred amid heightened regional tensions following retaliatory missile strikes across parts of the Gulf. Witnesses described seeing ambulances rushing towards the affected hotel as civil defence teams worked to secure the site and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
The incident comes during a period of growing instability in the Middle East after Iran reportedly launched missile attacks targeting locations in several Gulf nations including the UAE. While many of these projectiles were intercepted, debris from intercepted missiles has been linked to fires and damage in certain areas.
Authorities in Dubai continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Meanwhile, officials have urged the public to remain calm as emergency response teams maintain control over the affected zone.
