Can ‘GOAT’ break ‘Leo’s’ box office records?
Thalapathy Vijay has once again proven his dominance in Tamil cinema with The Greatest of All Time (GOAT). Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film achieved a massive milestone by becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year in just four days, grossing Rs 221.25 crore worldwide. This quick rise surpassed Dhanush’s Raayan, which grossed Rs 154 crore. Fans are now eagerly watching to see if GOAT will challenge the records set by Vijay’s previous blockbuster Leo, which collected a staggering Rs 605.9 crore globally.
The film’s India performance has been impressive, with a total of Rs 137.2 crore nett in just four days. Most of its earnings came from the Tamil version, which contributed Rs 121.05 crore. However, GOAT struggled to make a big impact in the Hindi-speaking market, collecting only Rs 8.3 crore due to its limited release outside major theatre chains like PVR and INOX. Despite this, Vijay’s fans have celebrated the movie’s thrilling action sequences, double-role performance, and unexpected cameos.
Will GOAT dethrone Leo?
GOAT may have set new benchmarks in 2024, but it faces a tough challenge if it hopes to surpass the lifetime earnings of Vijay’s previous hit Leo, which grossed Rs 341.04 crore in India and Rs 605.9 crore worldwide. With high expectations for GOAT’s continued success, many are wondering if it will break this record during its overall run.
No matter the final numbers, one thing is clear: Vijay’s star power remains unmatched in Tamil cinema, making GOAT another memorable chapter in his illustrious career.
