Delhi-Karnal Namo Bharat Corridor: NCRTC Begins Road Work to Ensure Faster Commute

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has taken the first step toward making the Delhi-Karnal Namo Bharat corridor a reality by initiating road widening and renovation work along the proposed 136-km route. Though the project awaits final approval from the Central Government, the NCRTC is proactively preparing the groundwork to ensure minimal disruptions once construction begins.

Why Road Widening Before Construction?

Officials explain that barricading and diversions will be necessary during the corridor’s construction, potentially causing traffic bottlenecks. To prevent major delays, the NCRTC has floated tenders for road expansion, repairs, and new road construction, including RCC drain work and hume pipe installation.

“The pre-construction upgrades will ensure smoother traffic flow and better commuter convenience,” an NCRTC official told Jagran.com.

Faster Travel, Better Connectivity

Once operational, the Namo Bharat RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridor will drastically cut travel time between Delhi and Karnal to just 90 minutes. The route will run from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Karnal’s New ISBT, passing through 18 stations, seven of which will be in Delhi.

Three Key Sections of the Corridor

  1. Sarai Kale Khan to Alipur (Delhi segment)
  2. Alipur to Samalkha (Haryana stretch)
  3. Samalkha to Karnal New ISBT (final leg)

Approximately 100 km of the corridor will be constructed in Haryana, while the remaining 36 km falls within Delhi. Two depots—Murthal and Ganjbar—are planned to support operations.

Future Travel Benefits

  • Kashmiri Gate to Murthal in 30 minutes
  • Indraprastha to Sonipat in 35 minutes
  • Kashmiri Gate to Panipat in 1 hour

With the NCRTC pushing ahead on preliminary work, the Delhi-Karnal Namo Bharat corridor could soon become a game-changer for NCR commuters, offering speed, efficiency, and seamless connectivity.
