KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a strategic business meeting in Malaysia on Sunday, applauding the interest of top Malaysian companies in India’s fast-growing economy and urging them to enhance their footprint in key sectors.
The engagement came on the sidelines of Modi’s ongoing official visit to the Malaysian capital, where economic diplomacy has been a central theme. During the talks, he met with four prominent industry leaders, including the president of national energy firm PETRONAS, the founder of Berjaya Corporation, the managing director of sovereign wealth investor Khazanah Nasional, and the founder of semiconductor maker Phison Electronics.
In discussions with Tengku Muhammad Taufik of PETRONAS, Modi highlighted opportunities to deepen energy cooperation, particularly in renewable sources and clean fuels such as green hydrogen and ammonia. Malaysian executives expressed enthusiasm about expanding operations and investment linkages with India.
Modi used the platform to showcase India’s reform agenda and business-friendly policies. He urged visiting leaders and fellow CEOs present at the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum to tap into expanding opportunities in sectors like infrastructure, digital technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and healthcare.
Industry representatives welcomed the invitation, pointing to India’s dynamic growth environment and indicating plans to explore joint ventures and a stronger presence in the Indian market. They also voiced strong confidence in India’s long-term economic prospects.
The meeting reinforced the momentum of India-Malaysia economic ties, complementing broader diplomatic engagements during Modi’s visit aimed at boosting trade, investment and strategic cooperation between both nations.
