In a historic accolade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo,’ Bhutan’s highest civilian award. This recognition makes Modi the first foreign Head of Government to receive this distinguished honor, a testament to his remarkable efforts in bolstering India-Bhutan relations.
Modi, expressing his appreciation, dedicated the award to India’s populace, stating, “Honoured to be conferred with ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ Award by Bhutan. I dedicate it to 140 crore Indians.” The award was presented by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan during Modi’s recent two-day state visit, his third trip to the Himalayan kingdom since taking office in 2014.
The Prime Minister’s visit underscored the strong ties and mutual respect between India and Bhutan, highlighting the ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy’s commitment to reinforcing the enduring partnership between the two nations.
