In a significant move to support the agricultural sector, the Union Cabinet has approved the minimum support price (MSP) for 14 Kharif season crops, including cotton, maize, jowar, ragi, and paddy. This announcement came following a union cabinet meeting, where Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of Prime Minister Modi’s third term in continuing economic growth and implementing key decisions for the welfare of farmers.
Vaishnaw detailed that the approved MSP for these crops will result in approximately Rs two lakh crore financial impact for the government and a substantial gain of Rs 35,000 crore for farmers compared to the previous season. The government’s commitment to ensuring that farmers receive a price at least 50% higher than their input costs was highlighted, with significant MSP increases particularly for oilseeds and pulses.
Following his oath-taking for the third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed his first file, authorizing the release of the 17th installment of PM Kisan Nidhi. This act underscores the government’s dedication to farmer welfare. During an event in Varanasi, PM Modi distributed this installment, amounting to over Rs 20,000 crore, through Direct Benefit Transfer to around 9.26 crore eligible farmers.
The approved MSP aims to bolster farmer income, ensure fair pricing, and support the overall growth of the agricultural sector, reinforcing the government’s ongoing initiatives for economic stability and farmer prosperity.
