In a significant development in the NEET-UG paper leak case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a journalist in Jharkhand and conducted extensive searches in Gujarat. The arrested journalist, identified as Jamaluddin Ansari, was apprehended in Hazaribagh district. Ansari is allegedly connected to the principal and vice-principal of Oasis School in Hazaribagh, who were arrested earlier. The school officials, Ehsanul Haque and Imtiaz Alam, held crucial roles in the administration of the NEET-UG exam in the district, with Haque serving as the city coordinator and Alam as the centre coordinator.
The CBI’s action didn’t stop in Jharkhand; extensive searches were also carried out across four districts in Gujarat, including Anand, Kheda, Ahmedabad, and Godhra, targeting suspects linked to the paper leak. These efforts are part of a broader investigation that includes six FIRs related to the case, spurred by a directive from the Union Education Ministry and subsequent takeovers of state cases.
The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is a pivotal entrance test for medical courses in India. This year, the exam was held on May 5 across 4,750 centers nationwide and abroad, with over 23 lakh candidates participating. The ongoing probe underscores the gravity of the allegations and the CBI’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of this critical exam.
