Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a scathing attack on AAP Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of blatantly misleading the public and failing to fulfil his promises. The remarks came during a press conference in the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly elections.
Key Points From Amit Shah’s Address:
- Broken Promises & Blatant Lies: Shah alleged that Kejriwal’s government repeatedly failed to deliver on key promises, including cleaning the Yamuna River, providing clean piped water, and appointing a Dalit Deputy Chief Minister.
- Luxury ‘Sheesh Mahal’: He criticised Kejriwal for spending over ₹51 crores on a lavish government bungalow and breaking his promise of not availing such benefits.
- Corruption Allegations: Shah highlighted major scams under Kejriwal’s administration, including:
- ₹28,400 crore Delhi Jal Board scam.
- ₹5,400 crore ration distribution scam.
- ₹1,300 crore school classroom scam.
- ₹571 crore CCTV installation scam.
- Failed Governance vs. Modi’s Leadership: Shah compared Kejriwal’s governance to the BJP-led Centre’s achievements, citing projects worth ₹77,000 crores, including road construction, railway development, and airport upgrades in Delhi.
Hitting Out at AAP’s Policies
Amit Shah also criticised Kejriwal’s excise policy, accusing the AAP government of opening liquor shops near schools and religious places, and implicating the former Delhi education minister in a liquor scam.
He accused Kejriwal of attempting to cover up corruption cases and using bail orders as a shield to maintain a facade of integrity.
Delhi Elections in Focus
The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. As the political atmosphere intensifies, Shah’s remarks reflect the BJP’s focus on contrasting its governance model with AAP’s.
This heated exchange marks the deepening rivalry between the two parties, as voters weigh promises and past performances ahead of the polls.
