Kohli’s Historic Moment
During the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia on March 4, Virat Kohli created history by becoming the Indian player with the most catches in international cricket.
The milestone was achieved when Kohli caught Josh Inglis at short cover off Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery, marking his 335th catch across all formats—surpassing Rahul Dravid’s long-standing record of 334 catches.
This achievement comes just days after Kohli surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin’s record for most ODI catches by an Indian.
Most Catches for India in International Cricket
Virat Kohli – 335 catches
Rahul Dravid – 334 catches
Mohammad Azharuddin – 261 catches
Sachin Tendulkar – 256 catches
Rohit Sharma – 223 catches
Globally, Kohli now ranks fourth in the all-time list, only behind:
- Mahela Jayawardene (440 catches)
- Ricky Ponting (364 catches)
- Ross Taylor (351 catches)
Breaking Down Kohli’s Catching Record
- ODIs: 160 catches (Tied with Ricky Ponting for 2nd place all-time)
- Tests: 121 catches (3rd most by an Indian after Dravid and Laxman)
- T20Is: 54 catches (Tied with Hardik Pandya, behind Rohit Sharma’s 65)
With Kohli still active in international cricket, he has a strong chance of climbing further up the all-time rankings and solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest fielders in the game’s history.
