  • India has asked family members of its officials in Bangladesh to leave the country due to safety concerns.
  • Indian diplomatic missions in Dhaka and other posts continue normal operations.
  • The move reflects heightened caution amid uncertainty in Bangladesh’s security environment.

New Delhi has taken a precautionary step advising the family members of Indian diplomats based in Bangladesh to return home in view of a deteriorating security environment in the neighbouring nation, government sources told reporters. The directive applies to dependents of staff posted at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka as well as at various consular posts across Bangladesh.

Officials emphasized that this measure is intended solely as a safety precaution given the current situation on the ground. Despite the advisory, the Indian High Commission and all its posts in Bangladesh are fully open and functioning normally, underscoring that official diplomatic and consular services will continue without interruption.

The decision comes amid reports of growing unrest and sporadic violence in several parts of Bangladesh, raising concerns about the wellbeing of foreign nationals residing or working there. India’s Ministry of External Affairs, in its internal advisories, cited updated assessments of local conditions to justify the move.

Indian diplomatic staff themselves remain in place, engaging with Bangladeshi authorities to ensure continued cooperation and to monitor developments. New Delhi has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties with Dhaka, even as it prioritizes the security of its citizens and personnel abroad.

The advisory reflects a broader trend of heightened vigilance among foreign missions in Bangladesh following recent incidents that have tested regional stability and raised diplomatic sensitivities. The situation remains fluid, and Indian authorities have indicated that further decisions will be guided by changes in conditions on the ground.
