  • Government asks consumers not to rush LPG cylinder bookings despite shortage fears.
  • Officials say the normal delivery cycle of about 2.5 days remains unchanged.
  • Booking gap increased to 25 days to prevent panic buying and hoarding.

The Indian government has urged consumers not to panic book LPG cylinders amid rising concerns about a possible shortage of cooking gas in several parts of the country. Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reassured citizens that domestic supply remains stable and that deliveries are continuing as usual.

The appeal comes after reports of panic booking by households following news of supply disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Authorities said the sudden spike in bookings could strain distribution systems and lead to unnecessary shortages if consumers stockpile cylinders.

Government officials clarified that the regular delivery cycle for domestic LPG cylinders continues to be around two and a half days. They emphasized that there is no immediate need for consumers to rush and place additional orders.

To manage demand and prevent hoarding, the government has increased the minimum waiting period between LPG bookings from 21 days to 25 days. The move is aimed at ensuring fair distribution and maintaining balance in the supply chain during the current period of uncertainty.

The concerns over LPG supply have largely emerged due to disruptions in global energy routes caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. India imports a significant portion of its LPG requirements, and changes in shipping routes and energy markets have triggered fears of shortages among consumers.

In response, the government has taken several measures to secure energy supplies. Officials said the country is expanding crude oil sourcing to multiple nations and increasing domestic LPG production to ensure that household demand is met.

Authorities also noted that oil marketing companies have been instructed to prioritize domestic consumers when distributing LPG cylinders. This step is intended to ensure that household kitchens are not affected even if commercial supply faces temporary disruptions.

The government has urged people to rely on official updates rather than rumours and to continue booking cylinders only when required. Officials believe that avoiding panic buying will help maintain smooth distribution and ensure that cooking gas remains available to all consumers.
