The second phase of the Lok Sabha election witnessed a voter turnout of over 64% in 88 constituencies across 13 states and one Union territory by 5 PM. This phase saw enthusiastic participation from voters in states like Tripura, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal, where voter engagement was notably high.
Tripura topped the chart with the highest voter turnout, showcasing robust democratic engagement. Following closely were the tribal-dominated regions of Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, reflecting strong voter participation in these areas.
In Bihar, the turnout saw a slight increase compared to the first phase, with constituencies like Kishanganj registering a 56.12% turnout, Katihar at 55.54%, Purnea at 55.14%, Bhagalpur at 47.26%, and Banka at 49.50% by the evening. Rajasthan also reported significant voter activity with an average turnout of 59.19% across its 13 constituencies, with Barmer-Jaisalmer and Banswara-Dungarpur recording the highest figures.
Madhya Pradesh’s six constituencies also saw active participation, with Hoshangabad leading at 63.44%, followed by Tikamgarh and Satna, both close to 57%. Notable voters included Union minister Prahlad Patel and Virendra Kumar, marking their presence at the polls.
Kerala concluded its polling for all 20 Lok Sabha seats at 6 PM with a preliminary turnout exceeding 67.27%. Despite the official polling time ending, large queues were still reported at several booths, indicating that the final turnout might increase further.
This phase of elections has progressed peacefully despite minor incidents, highlighting the electorate’s commitment to the democratic process. The results of this phase are eagerly awaited as they play a crucial role in shaping the next government.
