Key Points
- INDIA bloc accuses EC of voter fraud, plans impeachment motion against CEC Rajiv Kumar.
- Election Commission denies allegations, challenges opposition to provide proof.
- Political tensions rise as the opposition threatens legal action ahead of key elections.
The political battle between the opposition INDIA bloc and the Election Commission (EC) has intensified, with the alliance now preparing an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar. The move follows explosive allegations of “voter chori” (voter theft) during recent elections, a charge the EC has firmly denied.
Opposition Demands Accountability
Leaders of the INDIA coalition have accused the EC of failing to safeguard electoral integrity, claiming irregularities in voter registration and polling processes. They argue that discrepancies in voter lists and alleged manipulation have undermined democracy. “If the EC cannot ensure free and fair elections, it must be held accountable,” said a senior opposition leader.
EC Fires Back – ‘Show Proof’
The Election Commission, however, has dismissed the allegations as baseless. In a sharp rebuttal, the poll body challenged the opposition to provide documented evidence before making such serious claims. “The EC operates with complete transparency. Unsubstantiated accusations only weaken public trust in democratic institutions,” an official statement read.
Impeachment Motion – A Political Gamble?
An impeachment motion against a sitting CEC is rare and requires substantial parliamentary support. Legal experts suggest that without concrete proof, the move may face hurdles. However, the INDIA bloc appears determined to escalate the issue, signaling a deepening rift between the opposition and election authorities.
As the war of words continues, all eyes are on whether the opposition can rally enough support for impeachment—or if this will remain a high-stakes political standoff.
